ESPrade – Irori – 10,640,430

I’m mostly happy with stages 1-3 here. I could have managed my 16x items a bit better in stage 3, but at this point I’m fine with just not dying to something stupid.

Stage 4 starts to come together, despite the total crap death from a bullet that decided not to convert to an item :(
I still sort of suck at the boss, but that’s fixing itself quickly.

I don’t have a consistent route through stage 5 yet and deaths throw me off badly on that stage. Also that nearly immediate death to the first tank is quite embarassing.

Started playing this again for some reason. I am absolutely horrible at stage 4… The score sucks, but at least I finally have a documented score for this game.

Guwange – Shishin – 7,423,437

Last week of the shmups.com tournament. I’d played Guwange a bit a few years ago when I first started playing shooters; I never cared about score then. I think this game is much more interesting when you actually try to maintain the chain as best you can. Without any prior experience I can see how managing the shikigami and still dodging stuff can be confusing and frustrating. Luckily I didn’t have that issue.

Stage 1: I’ve had better. Still not that unhappy with it. I could push my coin count higher if I’d get the timing down for the turret wall milk. I have to swing wide quite a bit to stop it from dying early. If I catch the max amount of bullets in the volley I only get two of them instead of three. I’m not sure if this is due to character choice or if I’m just missing something.

Stage 2: Strategic bomb on the last pattern of the boss. I found one of my barriers to a higher score was I’d occasionally take a hit here (sometimes even die, ugh). This ruins the 2k chain bonus for the food in stage 3. So whatever, bombs away.

Stage 3: Didn’t take any stupid hits before the food and claimed the bonus. Took a dumb hit after the bridge into the next section. Held the chain without dying until the boss. Went for a bit of milking but got cut down by the fast spread shots. Other than that there’s not much I can say about this stage. I already have some improvements in mind but those will probably have to wait a bit.

Stage 4: Dropped a life RIGHT before the worm died. Grrr. Oh well. Also dropped a 5k chain due to not paying attention to shiki placement before the boss. Real dumb.

Stage 5: lol

The video has no sound. Capturing messup. Enjoy the surreal silence.

Air Gallet – 1,892,680

Week #5! I’m not sure how I feel about Air Gallet. Understandably it is very Toaplan-ish. The art is awesome. However, I’m not sure it “rocked my socks off”. Still, a reasonably challenging game that I wouldn’t mind revisiting to try to get the 1CC.

I died TWO TIMES on the second boss. While this is probably embarassing, I suspect the resulting rank reduction contributed greatly to my ability to continue on as far as I did. There’s no excuse for those deaths either, I just mis-dodged and put myself in some stupid places.
